Monterey, MA.The first visit to the 1990’s kitchen revealed much potential yet unexplored. Its lack of detail and white walls, ceiling and cabinets made the high-ceilinged space feel cavernous and cold. One small south-facing window left the primary view and daylighting opportunities untapped.
An eyebrow dormer transforms this space by engaging the cavernous ceiling, providing a focal point, capturing meadow views, and bringing morning sunlight deep into the kitchen. Trim at the roof hips and crowning the wall ground the vast volume. The use of varying values of gold on walls, ceiling and woodwork further contributes what is now an efficient, warm and comfortable kitchen.
